곽수영은 기억과 분위기를 그린다. 어떤 기억은 현실의 경험을 거듭하며 무의지적으로 떠오르는데, 불완전한 기억은 다시 눈앞의 현실의 경험과 다층적으로 관계 맺는다. 이 과정에서 생겨나는 우연한 조합, 왜곡된 기억 등을 캔버스에 옮긴다. 거듭되는 기억 속 사물과 사람의 관계, 이를 드러내는 분위기를 그림에 담아 현실을 총체적으로 감각하기를 시도한다.
